For someone who calls herself a visionary, hypes up her big optimist energy, says her work is fueled by imagination - I regularly underestimate the ways that dreaming has become a central part of my praxis as a changemaker and organizer.

Yes your community is resilient and passionate and powerful, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to expect that members will be fine and know how to take care of themselves. Remember to take care of them as well.

Fear is an okay feeling, but it’s a trap. At some point I have to admit myself that like Dormammu I am stuck, bargaining with forces I have no control over. Fearing failure is inherently sisyphean; failure is going nowhere. There’s no beating it. And I know our world is built for brute force, for pushing through and never giving up but I personally don’t think that’s the only way to approach failure.

So how do we beat disinformation? From tech and policy to education and culture, honestly there aren’t really any perfect answers. Are we doomed to just live in a world where we can’t trust anything or anyone?

The UN Youth Envoy - Jayathma Wickramanayake, is someone I greatly admire. Just a few years older than me, she’s been such a powerful voice on the global stage making space for youth at the UN, making genuine change regarding how we’re engaged and amplifying our voices on some of the most important issues.

I mean, we’re in a pandemic, I work from home, I definitely have the time for more joy, fulfillment, excitement, hobbies - so what am I filling that time with?

Our newest challenge is as Senior Producers, to guide and support the team and continue to steer it, and for me, that’s opened up a space in my life that I’ve been using to make personal transitions of my own, leaning into the Kristeena-ness, taking it through new doors, down new paths into new intervals of possibility. I don’t know where they all lead yet but I’m enjoying the experience of expansion and the time with me.

That’s the magic of Talk Up Yout for me. Looking back it was a safe, nurturing environment in which to learn the business of media, pick up incredibly useful, transferable skills, meet new people and expand my network while also doing some good in the world.

I joined the project as Project Manager - working with my team to select and work with schools to design the engagement sessions with each group of students, manage the cadre of young project assistants and keep the tour on track.

For this 6 month project I led the Talk Up Radio team in partnership with local youth organizations and youth leaders to produce a series of outside broadcasts highlighting the voices of and collaborating with youth in underserved communities in Kingston for the Talk Up Yout School Tour - powered by the Digicel Foundation and NCB Foundation.

For this project I I joined the Talk Up Yout Team to work with students in high schools across Jamaica to record their perspectives on issues affecting them and produce a series of articles and reports with recommendations for action on the part of stakeholders.

Over 5 years I produced more than 250 episodes of the programme, staying abreast of youth trends, research and listening to our community to write the scripts, select the guests and create the segments that came together with the energy of our team and support of our listeners to make our mark on the Jamaican media landscape and the world of youth engagement.

How I wrote 25 episodes of Ackee Walk Children's Puppet Show - a child-friendly, vibrant, culturally-relevant Jamaican programme on Television Jamaica. Produced by Emprezz Golding Productions, powered by UNICEF Jamaica.

As for me, I just want to see us thrive. Even under perfect conditions life is hard, but you and I know much of the suffering we endure and see around the world is there by design.

Learning design isn’t only for Designers. Good design is useful in all sorts of projects and fields and for all sorts of people.

goodies, while we continue to attempt to cope with the dumpster fire that is 2020, please, if you have a spare moment, take some time to look at how perfectionism has his claws in your life and how you can tell him to snatch his hand back before you break it off, with love and to counteract his evil with patience, love and kindness.

I love Sundays. They’re slow, quiet, and comforting in all the right ways. Sundays just make me want to love on myself, like I look in the mirror and see this young woman who just needs more pampering, more love, more soul time and I just want to treat her right and show her what’s good you know?
